Hi, my name is Kate and I would like to tell you something about myself and my business.

As the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games takes place in less than 24 hours in Beijing I remember with fondness the special times I had in China as a teacher of English. The people I met there touched my heart and my mind and left me with a great respect for their inner strength.

Finding myself in a country of dense population, contrasting culture and a language barrier which seemed insurmountable I found beneath all that a race rich in tradition, patriotism, history and energy.

As we have seen China grow as a global economic power we can see evidence of this strength and determination. These attributes battle on a daily basis against threats of natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods of which we have seen just this year.

It is because of my experiences in the Far East that Guava was born. My aim for you is to appreciate individuality in style with just a hint of the East, together with the use of natural products such as silk, cotton, shells and gems - all at affordable prices.

The countries from which I source my products have special significance to me. I either visited them, for example Japan and Hong Kong, or lived and worked there. Other countries such as Indonesia and Thailand ravaged by the 2004 tsunami from which I narrowly escaped, also hold a special significance to me. I have been careful to source small, family run businesses in trying to maintain a fair and ethical concept behind my business and in doing this have built up good relationships with suppliers.
